Lovesong of a Centarian

She loves me
and I love her.
God's love brought us together.

Blind and nearly deaf she finds
comfort in the Bible, Gospel songs,
and kind words from a stranger.

She weeps and calls herself a fool,
ashamed for thinking that
I would not come to her.

She knows I love her
and have always come.
She says she's stupid
for her fears.

She is close to death and knows it -
denies her endtime just the same.

Calls me an angel and weeps some more -
holding, hanging on
afraid to let go

Loving life
Loving me
Loving God

Sleep eludes her
fear of
leaving life
leaving me
for an awful, unknown eternity
